Jaguar, Shelby Cobra Set Records for Any British and American Car at RM Sotheby’s

by Mark Beech • A Le Mans-winning Jaguar D-Type, once part of the Ecurie Ecosse race team, became the most expensive British automobile sold at auction with a final price of $21.78 million. In addition, the very first Shelby Cobra, a CSX 2000, went for $13.75 million, setting the American record.

The auction house has not yet given an estimate, although dealers say that it is among the most desirable of Dinos and, therefore, could be particularly valuable, with a price exceeding the equivalent of $750,000.

Sotheby’s NY to Auction Roy and Marilyn Papp Collection of Traditional Chinese Paintings

by Claire Bouchara • Sotheby’s will auction off traditional Chinese paintings from the renowned Roy and Marilyn Papp Collection, described as “one of the finest private collections of Chinese paintings remaining in the United States.” The 122-lot sale will take place on September 14 in New York and is estimated to raise a total of $10–15 million.
