Art of England's Greatest Collector King, Charles I, Together at Last

by Nina Siegal, Art+Auction • When the Tate Gallery in London in 1973 presented an exhibition of some elements of the collection of the British King Charles I, Oliver Millar, the curator, wrote in the forward that the perfect exhibition could only exist “in our imaginations,” because the works had been so thoroughly dispersed after Charles I was deposed and decapitated in 1649, that it would be impossible to reunite them under one roof.

by Mark Beech • A 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale sold for a record $8.08 million and a 1958 Porsche Spyder went for $5.17 million at the first major car auctions of 2018. The top lots at Gooding & Co and Bonhams were joined by a 1966 Shelby Cobra at RM Sotheby’s.
