Join Democrats across the country and call on Congress to officially declare June as National Gun Violence Awareness Month:

Friends, America has a gun problem.

The facts speak for themselves:

  • Nearly a quarter of U.S. teenagers (14-17) have witnessed a shooting. [1]
  • An average of 7 children and teenagers are killed by guns -- every day. [2]
  • In 2007, more pre-school aged children were killed by gun violence than police officers killed in the line of duty. [3]

It’s a sad fact that while guns kill almost 90 people every day in America, Congress isn’t passing the critical legislation we need to curb the violence.

In fact, NRA-backed politicians have made it impossible for the federal government to even study the problem of gun violence.

It’s time to launch a national conversation about the effects of gun violence, and that begins by making June National Gun Violence Awareness Month >>

Make no mistake: the fact that Congress is prohibited from studying gun violence is no accident. It’s a testament to the power that the NRA holds over our elected officials.

It’s clear that something has to be done to break the silence, and that’s why this initiative is so important. It will launch a much-needed national conversation promoting awareness of this critical issue.

It will also provide a platform for addressing the effects of gun violence by bringing citizens and community leaders together to make our communities safer.

We must take steps immediately to combat this worsening epidemic. Sign this important petition today:

Thank you,
