We stand with you

Last night, Donald Trump was elected to be the 45th President of the United States. For those of us who supported Hillary -- who poured out their hearts and dedicated themselves to the cause of building a better future together -- this is a hard day.

Today we stand with Latinos. We stand with women and girls. We stand with LGBT Americans. We stand with immigrants, disabled Americans and Muslim Americans. We stand with you. We stand together because we are stronger together.

Many people are scared right now. Donald Trump built his campaign on hate and division and prejudice and small-minded bigotry, from the very moment he announced. He appealed to the very worst in America -- and he won.

But your support mattered.

You helped us elect Catherine Cortez-Masto to become the first Latina elected to the U.S. Senate.

You helped us elect Adriano Espaillat to become the first Dominican-American to be elected to Congress.

You helped us fight like hell to try and elect Hillary Clinton to be the first woman President. And we gave it our absolute all. We just fell short.

President Obama often quotes Martin Luther King Jr. saying, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”

That arc looks longer today than it did yesterday, but I promise you: the fight for America’s future is not over. It is only just beginning.

I want to close by thanking you for everything you’ve done to support us over the last year. Your passion and dedication have inspired me every single day of this campaign and I could not be prouder to stand beside you.

I want you to know that the work we have done together has not been in vain. We will be back -- and we will be stronger than ever.

So, from the bottom of my heart:

Thank you,

Congressman Tony Cárdenas

P.S. President Obama is still in office fighting for us. We want to hear from you now. What do YOU want to see President Obama do before he leaves office?
