Join us for a fast-paced introductory course on stop motion video production. Stop motion is an animation technique that physically manipulates objects so that they appear to move on their own. This class, taught by Lucie Fink, will focus on creating stop motion video content on a low budget using a cell phone. It will cover basic lighting, story-telling, shooting and editing principles. Please have your laptop on hand for reference and a way to take notes. Note: This will be more of a demo than a hands-on class due to time and equipment restraints. Light snacks will be provided.
#BetaNYC, NYC's open data, open gov, & civic tech community
General Assembly 10 East 21st St - New York, NY
Help TLC provide more public data! The TLC has been a pioneer in sharing big data since 2010. With over 21,000 medallion taxis and street-hail liveries equipped to capture GPS-enabled trip records, TLC’s trip data are valuable research tools for policy makers, scholars, businesses and urban planners. Earlier data releases included anonymized vehicle and driver identifiers, but in 2014 they were de-anonymized and published. In response, we stopped releasing these identifiers altogether, which limits the data's usefulness. TLC is considering releasing this information, subject to a new anonymization method, which gives us the opportunity to invite civic data experts to help us test and ensure its strength. In addition, we are interested in identifying potential privacy risks associated with geospatial data. The TLC is organizing a month-long online hackathon to accomplish these goals by challenging our civic hacker community. For more information on the hackathon, including prizes and how to sign up, visit http://tlchack2016.devpost.com
What does a great experience have in common with a great story? Everything. While many of us seek out the newest and shiniest processes to build more successful products, we often overlook one of the oldest and most effective methods available: a structurally sound story. In this talk, you'll learn how to use story as a foundation for your existing approach, be it Agile, Lean, or some other methodology, and transform complex concepts into simple narratives. (You'll also learn how this concept is different from Agile user story mapping.) Whether you are creating something from scratch, or updating an existing product, mapping the story will help you determine how to envision and develop something people not only love to use, but utilize and recommend often - and do so before committing to expensive pixels and code. We hope you can join us!
Hey Everyone, William Meyer, Novus veteran and early member of the steller Troops engineering team, is speaking at Canary! We're excited for it, and we'll see you there! Abstract: How does scalac compile implicit classes? Where does the implicit class get de-sugared and how is the implicit method represented inside the compiler? How does scalac search for a matching implicit method? Learn about the machinery behind the language semantics - the phases: parser, namer, typer and the data structures: Compilation Unit, Context, Tree, Symbol, Scope - by jumping into the code.
