Good morning!

State education officials released a new set of learning standards Tuesday, the latest response to backlash over the Common Core, which fueled the test refusal movement. In the past, the state's education commissioner said changes to the standards were not just "tinkering around the edges," and included revisions to more than half of them. But the significance of the latest changes is not yet clear.

Also in today's roundup: the fight over mayoral control is heating up, the city's Pre-K for All program earns praise from Harvard, and New York City officials promise to outfit all schools with single-stall bathrooms to accommodate transgender students.
