The holiday season is upon us! If that fills you with joy, then bring that good mood to the Improv! If it fills you with dread, then we'll cheer you up at the Improv! (We're not above playing both sides.)

Story League 12/9: Over the last few years, storytelling has blown up as a live performance art. DC is the home base for Story League, the nation's only funny-story competition -- and we've got their winter championship on our stage next week. The seven storytellers you'll see that Wednesday have already won other Story League events, so this is the best of the best - if you want to see what all the fuss is about, this is a great place to start.

Cindy Kaza

Brent Morin on Netflix: Starting today (12/1), Netflix subscribers can stream a new one-hour comedy special by Brent Morin. We tell you this because a) Brent is great, and b) Brent will be headlining the Improv February 3-6. This is the perfect "try before you buy" scenario. Go kick the tires on Netflix, then enjoy him in-person a few weeks down the road.

Holiday shopping: If Black Friday and Cyber Monday didn't put an end to all your holiday shopping, we humbly suggest the gift of laughter. We've got Improv gift cards available in whatever amount you want, or you could register someone for a comedy class. We have posted our classes for January 2016, including three different sections of "Beginning Improv." Classes are five or six weeks, meeting once each week.

Free Stuff: We've got a slate of free events at the Improv over the next week. Our open mic night is this Thursday (12/3). Our next trivia night is next Wednesday (12/9). And our comedy game night, the Make Up Party, is on 12/10. Free admission for all of those, but you can still make reservations (just read how online).

New Shows: Murder Mystery (1/7), ComedySportz (1/23), Brandon T. Jackson (2/26), Craig Robinson (4/22), Bert Kreischer (5/19)

Lavell Crawford show added

Lavell Crawford

December 4-6 (Fr-Su) Let's get right to it: Lavell is a popular dude. He's so popular that he sold out five shows weeks in advance. We added a sixth show, and that sold out. So thanks to popular demand, there is now a SEVENTH show.

On Saturday afternoon, we open our doors at 3 p.m., and the show starts at 4. It's "first-come-first-served" seating, and the tickets are on sale now. This is the only available show left with Lavell, so there's an excellent chance that it's going to fill up fast -- if you're interested, don't count on getting tickets at the door. See you Saturday!

Tickets: $30

Adam Ferrara

Adam Ferrara

December 10-13 (Th-Su) Adam has had some cool gigs: He fought fires with Denis Leary on "Rescue Me" and romanced Edie Falco on "Nurse Jackie." Lately he's been test-driving insane automobiles for the upcoming return of the American "Top Gear." But even with all that, Adam still loves every opportunity to hop on stage for his favorite job: stand-up.

Adam offers a great mix of blue-collar humor (he's New York Italian all the way through) and personal insight. He puts his acting skills to work to really grab audiences. He's been a fixture on our schedule for a long time, and it's always great to catch up with him. Take a break from holiday shopping and give yourself the gift of a good time.

Tickets: $17 Thursday/Sunday, $20 Friday/Saturday

HELLO, 2016

New Year's Eve

Orny Adams

December 31 (Th) We're not judging, but some of you are the kind of folks who plan things at the last second. And if that's the case, you probably spent at least one New Year's Eve on a couch in awkward silence with a significant other.

Get ahead of the game this year and lock in NYE with us. We've got live comedy with Orny Adams, a full bar, and a room full of people who are very relieved that they picked a winner. There's an early show if you want to make it home to watch the ball drop. And there's a "countdown" show where we keep you laughing right up until midnight.

Tickets: $35-$70 (early show), $75 (countdown show)

Murder Mystery Comedy Show

Die Laughing

January 7 (Th) Lots of people have "killed" on the Improv stage, but this is the first time we're asking the audience to do something about it. "The Last Laugh" is a murder mystery comedy show, starring 98 Rock Morning Show co-host Justin Schlegel and DC Improv favorite Rob Maher. Justin plays famous comedian/movie star Jim Marsdale. Jim has returned home to be roasted, but the festivities are cut short by a murder -- and audience members help solve the case.

All this is the brainchild of Die Laughing Productions. They started these shows a few months back, and we're thrilled to have them performing at the Improv. Start off your new year with a little variety ...

Tickets: $17

Brandon T. Jackson

Brandon Jackson

February 26-28 (Fr-Su) Iron your Alpa Chino chinos and get ready for the good times ...

Brandon has proved himself as one of the most talented young comedic actors working today, appearing in everything from sitcoms (“Mr. Robinson” in 2015, alongside the guy mentioned below) to smash-hit big-screen comedies (“Tropic Thunder”). The Detroit native can also bring it as a stand-up comedian, armed with tales from the inner city, the suburbs and Hollywood. These shows to close out February will be his DC Improv debut.

Tickets: $20 Friday/Saturday, $17 Sunday

Craig Robinson

Craig Robinson

April 22-24 (Fr-Su) If you don't already know who Craig is, you will by the end of the month - he's in Walmart's holiday ads.

But let's be real: You GOTTA know who Craig is. He starred for years on "The Office," then started branching into hit comedy movies like "Knocked Up," "This is The End," "Pineapple Express" and the "Hot Tub Time Machine" franchise. He even had his own sitcom on NBC over the summer, based on his pre-comedy life as a Chicago public school teacher.

Craig's live show is a ton of fun, and it usually mixes music with comedy. This is his DC Improv debut!

Tickets: $32 all shows
