PLUS: Tony Perkins returns to a comedy stage

The DC Improv

Happy almost St. Patrick's Day! The Irish love to laugh, so if you don't want to get falling-down drunk on a Thursday you can always honor the holiday by buying some comedy tickets.

$5 Showcase (4/13): We're trying something new on April 13 -- we're putting five excellent local comics on our stage at the low price of $5. If that can't get you over the mid-week hump, nothing can. Our first lineup is Rob Maher, Kandace Saunders, Rahmein Mostafavi, Cerrome Russell and Tim Miller.

The Tony Perkins Show (4/23): On April 23, one of our favorite local media personalities comes to the Improv. Tony Perkins and Gary Stein will record their entertainment/comedy podcast in front of a live audience in our lounge. You can be a part of it. Tony used to do stand-up comedy, and we've been trying to nudge him onto our stage for years ... persistence pays off!

New Shows: DC Comedy Showcase (4/9), Five for Five Showcase (4/13), The Tony Perkins Show (4/23), Open Mic Night (4/28), Jerrod Carmichael (7/28), Flip Orley (8/4)

Funniest President podcasts: Our quest to find the funniest president of all time continues! The latest episodes have a lot to offer to comedy fans. On 3/7, Brad Jenkins and David Litt of Funny or Die DC talked to us about Barack Obama, and his inventive uses of comedy to communicate. On 3/14, "Parks and Recreation" writer Megan Amram shared insight into what makes William Henry Harrison funny. All these episodes are free to the public. Check 'em out ....

Pablo Francisco

Pablo Francisco

March 17-20 (Th-Su) We were going through pictures from Pablo's shows in 2015, and the one thing that jumps out is that he's a sweaty beast. Why? Because Pablo works HARD for his audiences. He has rapid-fire delivery, really physical act-outs and energy that just won't quit. His impersonations, voices and characters have won him a loyal following around the world.

Come to the club this weekend if you want to let go and really laugh ... and watch a guy sweat for your benefit.

Tickets: $30 all shows

March 24-26 (Th-Sa) The nation got a good look at Dominique in 2015 when she finished in the top five for "Last Comic Standing." In DC, we've known about her for years, because this is where she got her start. She used to work at the Brentwood postal facility, but her real passion was working out material at the city's open mics. Her talents led to a few TV spots, and before long she was traveling the country doing comedy.

Now we've got her back in town for her DC Improv headlining debut. It should be a fun week of shows -- and a chance to support a product of the local scene.

Tickets: $17 Thursday, $20 Friday/Saturday

March 22 (Tu) Last week we had Vir Das, a guy who helped build the stand-up scene in India. Nemr has done the same for the Middle East. He grew up in San Diego, then moved back with his family to Lebanon, where he went on to break down barriers and unite people in a region where bombing on stage can have a completely different meaning. He is an accomplished comic with six full feature specials, and he currently holds the record for the biggest show in every major country in the Middle East. This is a one-night-only event ...

Tickets: $30 general admission, $50 VIP

Medium Cindy Kaza

Medium Cindy Kaza

May 4 (W) Cindy made two appearances on the Improv stage in 2015, and this is her first visit for 2016. Evidential mediums seek out specific information from the spirits, and try to convey messages from the spirit world to people in this world. Whether you're a believer or not, it's a fascinating thing to watch.

If you want to learn more about the show beforehand, Cindy did two interviews with us last year. She introduced herself in the first chat, and then she explained her abilities in the second one.

The Newly Dead Game

Newly Dead Game

April 14 (Th) We hosted our first murder mystery comedy show back in January, and the guys killed it -- the show sold out. They're back in one month with another of their creations, "The Newly Dead Game." You’re at a TV taping of the popular game show Clash of the Couples, where couples compete for cash and prizes. One couple will win it all, and one contestant will lose more than the game -- they’ll lose their life.

The show features some great local comedians and radio personalities (Rob Maher, Joe Robinson, Tommy Sinbazo, Justin Schlegel). But the real stars are, once again, the audience. Some of you will get to play parts in the show and all of you will guess who the murderer is. Guess right and you could win something new and shiny. Guess wrong and you’ll live with the shame and despair forever. Eat. Drink. Laugh. Solve a murder.

Tickets: $17

Ian Bagg

Ian Bagg

May 5-8 (Th-Su) Here's another "top five" finisher from "Last Comic Standing" 2015. Ian is the master of crowd work. We've seen him open a show by chatting with the front row, then carrying that first interaction all the way to the finish line. It's a gift that few people in the comedy world have, and Ian uses it to perfection, giving his shows an unpredictable and fun vibe.

Tickets: $17 Thursday/Sunday, $20 Friday/Saturday

Jerrod Carmichael

Jerrod Carmichael

July 28-30 (Th-Sa) "The Carmichael Show" is currently in its second season on NBC, showcasing one of the most promising young talents in comedy. A lot has already been written about the show's innovative ways of addressing hot-button social issues ripped straight from the headlines -- something that hasn't been tried by a multi-camera sitcom in ages.

Jerrod comes from North Carolina, made his way to LA and conquered its comedy scene. He’s sharp, relaxed and plugged-in – the prototype for a next-generation stand-up comic. Jerrod headlined the club in 2014, and we’re happy to have him back this year.

Tickets: $20 Thursday, $22 Friday/Saturday
