If all the rain is bumming you out, laughter is a good cure. So is a vacation to the Bahamas, but in the short term, we're thinking it's easier to work out the logistics of going to a Big Jay Oakerson show this week.

Hey Frase supershow (6/1): We've had a lot of fun watching Sarah Fraser and Samy K produce their hit podcast in our club. We had EVEN MORE fun watching sold-out "live audience" tapings they did in our lounge. Now they're doing a live-audience show in the main showroom, on a Wednesday night. VIP tickets are sold out, but $20 general admission seats are still available. Go listen to a few episodes of "Hey Frase" and if you like 'em, join the fun in three weeks.

Michael Blackson show added (5/29): By the time you get this e-mail, Michael Blackson will probably have sold out seven shows on Memorial Day weekend. So he added an eighth. It's on Sunday (May 29) at 9:45, and it's already starting to fill up. So if you want to see Michael this time around, hurry up ... here's the link for Sunday 9:45 tickets.

T-Shirt Design Competition:  In case you missed it - we're getting new DC Improv t-shirts, and if you come up with the best design for 'em, you can win a $250 DC Improv gift card. A few ground rules: 1) Designs can't include the faces of any comics, alive or deceased. 2) Make sure there's something "DC" about your design. You can submit your design (or your questions about this contest) by e-mailing We'll accept submissions until 11:59 p.m. on May 31, and the winner will be notified via e-mail on June 7. Good luck!

New Shows: Hey Frase (6/1), Open Mic Night (6/9), Make Up Party (6/16), Todd Glass (6/22), Godfrey (9/22)

New Podcasts: We've been trying to find the funniest president. But what about the funniest LOOKING president? We talked to an expert on the history of facial hair to see if Chester A. Arthur is worth laughing at. If you're sporting a beard or mustache, you're gonna find this interesting.

Big Jay Oakerson

Jay Oakerson

May 12-15 (Th-Su) It's been a good year for Jay: he recorded his first Comedy Central special in February, and the summer before that the network gave him a satellite radio show -- you can hear "The Bonfire" on Sirius XM. He hosted "What's Your F***** Deal," a show on the new comedy streaming service Seeso, that highlights his specialty: crowd work. And he got rave reviews at the hottest comedy festivals all around the country.

Now he's back in DC to headline the Improv for a second time. Jay's act combines stories from his rock and roll lifestyle and crazy interactions with the audience. (A lot of it's "adult," so if you like you comedy with an edge, this is a great show to see.) Plus, you can check out Jay's new haircut. Share with friends on Facebook

Tickets: $15 Thursday/Sunday, $17 Friday/Saturday

Bert Kreischer

Bert Kreischer

May 19-21 (Th-Sa) Bert built his comedy career on his reputation as a party machine -- when he was in college, Rolling Stone named him the best partier in the country. That lifestyle leads to crazy stories, and Bert is great at telling them. Even better, he figured out how to carry the good-times vibe into new adventures as a husband, father and TV host (you can see him on "Trip Flip" and "Bert the Conqueror").

If you're ready to join the party, Bert is here next week. We had him here in February for one of his "call in sick to work" shows; there were close to 300 Bert fans here at noon on a Thursday. You don't get to sneak out on your day job for these shows, but it's still gonna be a good time. Share with friends on Facebook

Comedy Kumite 6 / Todd Glass

Todd Glass Comedy Kumite

May 21: Comedy Kumite 6 (Sa) Every few months we gather eight of the finest local comedians, put them in our lounge showroom and FORCE THEM TO FIGHT! Comedy Kumite is a bracketed comedy tournament. Each "match" has two comics doing five minute sets, and then the audience cheers one of them on to the next round. You pick the show you want to see, and a champion is crowned after about 100 minutes. This edition features Jason Weems, Hillary Scofield, Umar Khan, Chris Milner, Eddie Morrison, Lafayette Wright, Rallo Boykins and Becca Steinhoff. Get tickets now ($17)

June 22: Todd Glass (W) Our 60-seat comedy lounge is kind of the house that Todd built. He thinks a lot about creating a great environment for comedy, and his input helped us set up that room when it opened in 2003. Todd still loves performing there. On a regular basis, he'll stop in for a "ridiculously intimate evening" of comedy -- and the next one is about a month away. It'll be Todd, his signature brand of off-the-wall comedy, the Todd Glass Band, and you. Get tickets now ($20)

Chris D'Elia

Chris D'Elia

June 15-19 (W-Su) You might have noticed that Chris D'Elia owns the Internet right now ... just check out #realdancing on Twitter. It's just the latest proof that Chris is one hell of a fun guy. The "Undateable" star has the luxury of playing theaters if he wants to, but next month we're lucking out and getting him in a comedy club environment. So all that charisma (and the super sweet dance moves) will be up close.

Please be advised that the two scheduled shows for Saturday are almost sold out (less than 20 tickets left for each show). All the Friday/Saturday shows will probably sell out in advance, so plan ahead if that's your preference. Share with friends on Facebook

Aries Spears

Aries Spears

June 23-26 (Th-Su) Aries impersonated family members at the dinner table when he was a kid. He was on stage at comedy clubs by the time he was a teenager, and before he hit 20 he launched a career in show business that’s still going strong. Aries is famous for his long run on “Mad TV,” which showcased his amazing ability to mimic and mock celebrities. His live show is quick, confident and aggressive – and he mixes in spot-on impressions of sports and entertainment stars with a library of straight stand-up that gets better every time we seem him. September 22-25 (Th-Su) Here's one to put on your radar. You have definitely seen Godfrey. He was the face of 7-UP for a while, he had a great cameo in "Zoolander," and last summer he hosted "Bullseye" on Fox. But you have to see him doing live stand-up.

Originally from Chicago, Godfrey is the son of Nigerian immigrants. While playing football, he discovered a knack for making teammates laugh. That eventually evolved into high-energy, full-body performances, perfected in the clubs of New York in Los Angeles. It's really hard NOT to have a good time watching him.
