Update: Marlon Wayans just added, Hypnotist Flip Orley this week

PLUS: Bill Bellamy August 11-14

The DC Improv

We interrupt our usual e-mail routine with this bit of news: Thanks to a schedule change, we now have Marlon Wayans coming our way in September. (Details are below.) He'll be performing 9/23 - 9/25, and the tickets are on sale right now.

If you're looking for something to do this week, remember we've got hypnotist Flip Orley on our stage Thursday through Sunday. He's one of the most popular acts in the history of the DC Improv, headlining more shows than anyone. Great way to beat the heat.

Comedy at President Lincoln's Cottage: When Abe Lincoln wanted to relax, he went to a cottage in DC a few miles north of the White House. He spent a quarter of his presidency there. Now YOU can relax at the cottage. The Improv is proud to collaborate with Lincoln's Cottage for the Two Faces Comedy Series: Three shows that take place inside the very building where the Emancipation Proclamation took shape. Lincoln was one of our funniest presidents and loved to laugh, so this is a cool way to connect with history. The first show is August 17 (a Wednesday) and features Rahmein Mostafavi, Kasha Patel and Tok Moffat. Click here for information and tickets.

August 4-7 (Th-Su) Free your mind and the laughs will follow!

Going to see Flip is like watching your favorite jam band. You know all the songs, but they're going to be different every time. Once some audience members are "under" the suggestions begin. Working as a comedic hypnotist for more than two decades, Flip has perfected scenarios that produce amazing responses, and you will be stunned by how funny volunteers can be once their imaginations are unlocked and their inhibitions are gone.

Whether you're on the stage as a volunteer or watching from the crowd, it might be a night at the club you'll never forget. Hey, there's a reason this guy has headlined multiple weeks a year for more than two decades ... Tell friends on Facebook

Tickets: $17 Thursday/Sunday, $19 Friday/Saturday

Marlon Wayans

Marlon Wayans

September 23-25 (Fr-Su) He's coming back! Marlon did eight sold out shows at the Improv in 2015. Since then, he released "50 Shades of Black" and scored a sitcom pilot with NBC. He's been tearing up comedy clubs all summer long, and now he's got a return engagement with the nation's capital.

Marlon started young, popping up on “In Living Color” in his early 20s. He had the highest-rated sitcom on the WB, appearing in “The Wayans Bros.” with his brother Shawn and the great John Witherspoon. And he has been in some of the most successful spoof movies of the last 20 years, hitting box office gold with “Scary Movie,” “A Haunted House” and now “Fifty Shades.” Tell friends on Facebook

Tickets: $40 general admission, $45 VIP (guaranteed seating in front rows)
