PLUS: DC Brau presents a Beer Week spectacular

The DC Improv

1140 Connecticut Ave. NW, WDC 20036

Only two weekends left in unofficial summer. Are you gonna crawl over the finish line? Or are you gonna laugh your a** off and finish strong? Go with whatever works best for you, but if you choose laughter, we're here for you.

NEW SHOWS: DMV Showcase (9/15), Kumite Tournament of Champions (10/9), Arsenio Hall (11/11), Brian McDaniel (11/12)

Locally Sourced Comedy: The DMV has excellent comedic talent, and we always have shows putting it on display. We just announced a "Comedy Kumite" tournament of champions on October 9, where past winners of our stand-up comedy contests come back to compete against each other. Plus we've got open mic night this Wednesday.

Planning Holiday Parties. We hate that we're writing this in August, but pumpkin beer is showing up on the shelves. Which means people actually start planning office holiday parties. The Improv is a great option ... if you plan ahead, you can bring a big group to a regular show (Hypnotist Flip Orley would be a great choice), or rent the space for a private event. Zap a message to and we're happy to chat.

Got a great drinking story? On September 29, DC Brau comes to the club for a DC Beer Week celebration. Part of that show is a contest searching for the best drinking story, with the winner getting a DC Brau/DC Improv prize package. If you have a great story (or a mediocre story that you're awesome at telling) then e-mail a one-paragraph version to The five most intriguing stories will be featured on our stage! Here's all the info on the event.

Ron Funches

Ron Funches

August 25-28 (Th-Su) If you hear uncontrollable giggling, it’s one of two things: 1) People who are giddy to see Ron Funches. 2) Ron Funches. You usually don’t describe a grown man as cuddly, but it’s the perfect word for Ron. He’s a got a sunny demeanor, a cartoon-character voice (he's actually part of the upcoming animated film "Trolls") and a body built for comfort.

Ron uses that exterior to get away with saying some seriously funny, inventive things. Ron was already an underground stand-up sensation before starring on the NBC sitcom “Undateable” and crushing all foes on Comedy Central’s “@midnight.” Join his growing army of fans! Tell friends on Facebook

Tickets: $22 Thursday/Sunday, $25 Friday/Saturday

Roy Wood Jr.

Roy Wood Jr.

September 2-4 (Fr-Su) No matter what side you're on this campaign season, it helps to laugh. Over the last year, Roy has specialized in turning headlines into comedy as a correspondent for "The Daily Show," a gig that has raised his national profile. Millions more people remember his work on the TBS sitcom “Sullivan and Son.”

But long before those gigs, Roy was known as a giant on the stand-up circuit – someone who was cracking up audiences coast to coast. He’s back in his natural environment to help us close out the summer. Tell friends on Facebook

The show features a headlining set from the great Sean Patton (Maron, Inside Amy Schumer, Comedy Central Presents and This is Not Happening) and a contest to find the best drinking story. Great beer, big laughs … what more could you want?

To enter the contest, e-mail a one-paragraph version of your story to The five most intriguing entries will get to tell their story on September 29. All contestants will have six minutes to present their story for the chance to win an Improv/DC Brau prize package (and eternal glory). Tell friends on Facebook

Judah Friedlander

Judah Friedlander

October 6-8 (Th-Sa) The Olympics are done, but we got a kick out of one thing in particular. NBC put together a cool video about Judah and Jen Wu, two friends brought together by pingpong. When he's not busy being a great comedian, Judah is an avid table tennis player. Jen immigrated to America and made the U.S. Olympic Table Tennis team. They help each other out -- Jen gives Judah lessons, and Judah helps Jen with the mental side of the game. It's a great "odd couple" story.

Judah (who's from Montgomery County) is here in October, so bring your paddle. Maybe he'll sign it ... Tell friends on Facebook

Kumite Tournament of Champions

October 9 (Su)  Last summer, we started up "comedy kumite" shows in our lounge. Each show is a one-night tournament featuring eight local stand-ups, with the audience picking the winners. It's a showcase for some of the best talent on the DMV scene.

Now we're bringing a Tournament of Champions to our main showroom! Past winners are returning to compete against each other, and this time the audience will decide the Grand Champion. Not to overhype this, but it's basically the stand-up Super Bowl, and World Series, and Stanley Cup, all rolled into one.

Your host for the evening is Dylan Meyer, and your competitors are Natalie McGill, Sean Savoy, Wendy Wroblewski, Rahmein Mostafavi, Matty Litwack, Jamel Johnson, Russ Green and Lafayette Wright. Tell friends on Facebook

Arsenio Hall

Arsenio Hall

November 11-12 (Fr-Sa) One of the most distinguished figures in pop culture! Arsenio shook up late-night television with his trailblazing talk show, and he has continued to entertain America as a performer, producer and actor. He’s now back on the road doing stand-up comedy, and he graces the stage of the DC Improv this November. Forget "Coming to America" -- he's coming to the DMV. Tell friends on Facebook

Orny Adams

Orny Adams

December 1-4 (Fr-Sa) Orny helped us kick off 2016 by headlining our 2015 New Year's Eve shows. No one wanted to wait a full year before seeing him again, so now he's helping us kick off December.

Orny became a well-known figure in the comedy world thanks to "Comedian," Jerry Seinfeld's documentary. In the decade and a half since that release, Orny's jokes have taken him around the world. He has written for the greats, been on the big talk shows and scored acting gigs. (Fans of MTV's "Teen Wolf" loooooove Orny.) He perfected his own style of high-octane observational comedy. Orny's a great natural performer ... Tell friends on Facebook
