The DC Improv

1140 Connecticut Ave. NW, WDC 20036

Twitter Facebook

The holidays can get stressful, so the DC Improv will help keep things festive without breaking the bank.

Below we have info on every show between now and December 30, and they all have a ticket price of $20 or less. (Plus our Open Mic Night on November 30 is free admission.)

And don't forget New Year's Eve. You're paying more for admission that night, but it's worth it: Everyone with a ticket gets a souvenir 25th anniversary t-shirt and a pass for free admission to a future show at the Improv.

GIFT IDEAS: Shopping for someone who lives in the DMV? We have DC Improv gift cards for sale. You can get them in any amount, and they can be used to buy tickets, comedy classes, food or drink. Click through for more info. Also, if you like to give "experience" gifts, remember that we have three sections of Beginning Improv class starting in January 2017. Not a bad way to go for the aspiring performer in your life.

MEGA MAY: It's a looooong way off, but we added two headliners for May 2017 and both of them sold out every single show they had with us in 2016. Consider this your warning to plan ahead. Craig Robinson will be here starting May 18, and Michael Blackson returns to the club starting May 25. We also have one night with The Pump and Dump on May 17, which is a VERY popular moms' night out.

NEW SHOWS: DC Improv Live (1/15), Next Wave: Jeff Maurer (1/21), Beltway Pundits (2/2), Craig Robinson (5/18), Michael Blackson (5/25)

Orny Adams: December 1-4

Orny Adams

When Jerry Seinfeld made the documentary “Comedian,” he tapped Orny Adams to show another part of the comedy journey: a young guy trying to fight his way to the top. Fourteen years later, Orny is still in the game, and jokes have taken him around the world. He has written for the greats, been on the big talk shows and scored acting gigs. (He's a fan favorite on MTV's "Teen Wolf.") He perfected his own style of high-octane observational comedy. And now he’s back for more shows at the DC Improv.

ComedySportz improv: December 3

When it comes to comedy, sometimes you CAN make this stuff up. ComedySportz shows (in our 60-seat lounge) are short-form improv, like what you see on "Whose Line?" Two teams battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes and songs on the spot. The audience shouts out all the suggestions and votes for the winners, while the referee calls the fouls. It's not a comedy show ABOUT sports, it's the comedy show that IS a sport.

The 7:30 show is "all ages," meaning you can bring people under the age of 18. (It's not specifically tailored to kids, but it's a "clean" show.) The "Late Night Improv" show at 9:45 has the usual 18+ age limit.

Price: $15 general admission

Christina Pazsitzky: December 9-10

Christina has been busy since we last saw her in early 2015. She's still podcasting on both "Your Mom's House" (with husband Tom Segura) and "That's Deep Bro." She narrated the acclaimed documentary "Can We Take a Joke?" And she also found the time to become a mom. She's billing her fall shows as the "Main Mother Goddess" tour and we can't wait to see what she's got in store for us. Only four shows, so get on board while you can ...

Hypnotist Flip Orley: December 15-18

No two Flip Orley shows are the same, which is why he's been a DC Improv favorite since the 1990s. Flip uses hypnosis to turn audience members into the stars of the show. He leads volunteers through twisted scenarios, getting reactions that are almost beyond belief – and he does it all without humiliating anyone. Whether you’re on stage or watching from the audience, Flip’s show is unforgettable. And no, we weren’t hypnotized into writing this.

You are transported to Nakatomi Consulting’s annual Holiday Party and Secret Santa gift exchange. The guest who gives the best gift will be the hit of the party. The one with the worst gift might just end up dead. 98 Rock morning show co-host Justin Schlegel and comedians Rob Maher, Joe Robinson and Tommy Sinbazo return to star alongside you, the audience. Several willing audience members will get to play roles in the production and everyone in the audience will get to guess, who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.

Tony Woods: December 22-23

Tony's style is an unforgettable mix of "laid back" and "totally in control." He started doing stand-up right here in the District, and he has influenced countless stand-ups -- he can count Dave Chappelle among his many distinguished fans. Tony returns to the DC Improv stage this December, and the Friday shows will be taped for an upcoming special. Come see a hometown hero at his best.

D.C. is an international city, and Tom Rhodes is an international comedian. We get a lot of great stand-ups at the Improv, but so far he’s the only one who hosted a talk show in the Netherlands. Tom shares his travels both on stage and online, through his Tom Rhodes Radio podcast and his travel writing. He also makes regular appearances on other podcasts and Comedy Central.
