NEWS AND NOTES

We hope your Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa / post-Festivus celebration is going great. If you're ready to plan the next big holiday, we cordially invite you to party with us on New Year's Eve. Info is below.

OPEN MIC WEDNESDAY: Looking to get out of the house for a few hours? And maybe away from the visiting family that you love so very, very much? Our open mic night is on December 28 at 7:30. Free admission (two-item minimum once you're in the showroom).

LAST CALL FOR BEGINNING IMPROV: We have three sections of "Beginning Improv" starting in our comedy school in January. Whether you're making a New Year's resolution, giving a gift, or trying it for kicks, it's a cool way to get creative. All class info is on dcimprov.com.

HELLO 2017

New Year's Eve with Tom Rhodes

Heads Up: Metro is open late on NYE!

Start a year laughing, and it's probably going to be a good year. So party with us on New Year's Eve! Everyone at the Improv gets a great show by Tom Rhodes, a souvenir t-shirt celebrating the Improv's 25th anniversary, AND a pass to get you into another show at the Improv in 2017.

The early show starts at 7:30, and we have dinner specials if you want them. (You order the dinner when you buy your ticket, and if you don't want the specials, we'll have our "late night" menu available.) The "countdown" show starts at 10:15, and the comedy wraps up with the traditional champagne toast and midnight celebration. It's one of the most fun (and least stressful) ways to close out the year.

THURSDAY-FRIDAY

Tom Rhodes: December 29-30

Tom Rhodes

We guess it's POSSIBLE that some people made New Year's Eve plans for somewhere other than the Improv, so you can still Tom a day or two earlier. D.C. is an international city, and Tom is an international comedian. We get a lot of great stand-ups at the Improv, but so far he’s the only one who hosted a talk show in the Netherlands. Tom shares his travels both on stage and online, through his Tom Rhodes Radio podcast and his travel writing. He also makes regular appearances on other podcasts and Comedy Central.

NEXT WEEK

Sheryl Underwood: January 6-7

Sheryl Underwood

Please note: Showtimes are 7, 9:30 and midnight each day. The Saturday 7 p.m. show is already sold out.

One of the hardest-working women in showbusiness. Sheryl made her first appearance at the DC Improv in the 1990s. Since that time, she has built a media empire. Sheryl co-hosts "The Talk," a daily panel show on CBS. She's a regular on the Steve Harvey Morning Show and hosts Sheryl Underwood Radio. And she's also the CEO of Pack Rat Productions. On stage, Sheryl continues to push the envelope: Her show is a no-holds-barred look at relationships, current events and politics. Share with friends on Facebook!

NEXT WAVE

Mike Vecchione: January 13-14

Mike Vecchione

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2017, we want to honor the past AND look to the future. So we're asking great stand-ups to recommend new stars to headline one of our showrooms. We're calling it the "Next Wave" series, and it starts in January with the recommendation of Dave Attell.

Mike Vecchione is one of the hottest names on the New York comedy scene, with an act that is both daring and a throwback to classic “club comedy.” He has appeared on “Conan” and Comedy Central. Check out the video link, and you'll hear that he's definitely on the same wavelength with Dave ... you're gonna enjoy this show.

NEXT WAVE

It's simple: We have great comics recommend new stars to headline our showrooms. After Mike Vecchione kicks things off in mid-January, we've got three more installments set for our lounge:

Jeff Maurer (picked by John Oliver) is here January 21.

Jordan Rock (picked by Tony Rock) is here February 3-4.

Sean Patton (picked by Ari Shaffir) is here February 24-25.

ONE MONTH OUT

Brent Morin: January 26-29

Brent Morin

Brent went on "Lip Sync Battle," and he defeated Chris D'Elia. We think this is reason enough for you to buy a ticket to see him do stand-up, but if you need a little more ... Brent first appeared on the DC Improv stage in 2014 as part of the “Undateable” tour – he co-starred in that NBC sitcom with fellow stand-ups Chris D’Elia and Ron Funches. His profile as a stand-up has been on the rise following the 2015 release of his Netflix special, "I'm Brent Morin." We’re excited to have him headlining the DC Improv a second time!

DC IMPROV DEBUT

Jamie Lee: February 17-19

It’s a stand-up tour AND a book tour. Jamie Lee is one of the great young voices in the comedy world, writing for and starring in shows on MTV, truTV, TBS, HBO and more. She's also now a published author, as “Weddiculous” has hits the shelves – it’s her helpful and hilarious guide to planning your big day, inspired by her own recent marriage. These shows are her DC Improv debut – and if you get a “VIP” ticket, you also get a copy of the new book that Jamie will sign for you.
