If you gave up laughter for Lent, welcome back. We're confident that Clayton English can get you back up to speed.

We've also got some comedy club heros back on our schedule. Head down to the bottom of this message for info on Tony Rock and Dave Attell's shows. And if you're a fan of Dave, maybe peek at Big Jay Oakerson, who's here next week. He's one of Dave's best friends in comedy.

Low-cost good times: Looking to stretch your comedy budget for the month? There's a fantastic improv show this Thursday in our lounge. The troupe Porkchop Volcano is on the stage, and tickets are just $10.

Our monthly open mic is back next week (April 26), and there's also a $5 "Time Machine Roast" on April 27 in the lounge. Details on the roast are in the teasers below.

Writing classes this week: We've got spaces available in special writing classes that are running this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Two of the classes are one-day, three-hour workshops; the third is a two-day class with three-hour sessions.) The Friday night workshop could be great for ANY kind of writer; the other two are geared toward people working on sketch comedy. Check 'em out.

Beginning Improv class next week: Speaking of classes, our next round of Beginning Improv starts on Monday, April 24. (It's a five-week course.) You don't need any performance experience to get started on improv comedy ... take the plunge.

New Shows: Tony Roberts (9/7), Dave Attell (10/13)

Last Comic Standing's Clayton English: April 20-23

Clayton English

Quick-witted, good-natured and flat-out funny, Clayton exploded onto the national comedy scene when he won "Last Comic Standing" in 2015. His victory lap had him performing at clubs, colleges and theaters all across the country, honing his already impressive skills. Now adding more and more TV credits to his resume, Clayton seems poised to become an even bigger star.

He was one of our favorite new headliners of 2016, and we welcome him back this week.

Known as a master of crowd work and dirty jokes, he specializes in honest and hilarious stories from his own rock-and-roll lifestyle. You can hear Jay on “The Bonfire” on Comedy Central’s SiriusXM channel, you can see him on “What’s Your F***ing Deal?” on Seeso, or (best of all) you can see him headline the DC Improv for a third time this April.

Time Machine Roast: April 27

We're excited to announce that time travel is real, and that it's being used for a noble purpose. Great figures in history will be coming together in the DC Improv Lounge on a Thursday night, to make fun of each other.

The Time Machine Roast features local comics (Denise Taylor, Ahmed Vallejos, Naomi Karavani, Benji Himmelfarb, Dylan Meyer, Linsay Deming, Landon Letzkus and Jeremy Frank) in costume and in character (as Che Guevara, Julia Child, Pocahontas, Albert Einstein and more). The jokes might be mean, but they're never too soon.

The Tony Perkins Show: April 29

Tony Perkins

If you've ever seen Tony do the news on Fox 5, then you know he's a great personality. He's even better when you put him on stage. The former stand-up comic is in our lounge on a Saturday night, recording a special live-audience edition of his podcast -- which is co-hosted by his friend and former producer Gary Stein. Another Fox 5 talent, Sarah Fraser, is the special guest. And there will be some comedy from DC Improv favorite Rob Maher.

Dave Attell: October 13-15

Dave Attell

We couldn't celebrate our 25th anniversary without Dave, one of the all-time comedy club greats. Starting in New York, he eventually took to the road, sharing his "very adult" comedy with audiences across the country. By the time Comedy Central signed him to do “Insomniac,” he was already one of the most popular touring stand-ups. Dave is still a presence on TV, and you can see his "Road Work" special on Netflix. Then come see him in person.
