Library Of Celsus at Ephesus Library of Celsus, ruins of ancient
A voyage through the Mediterranean and Aegean from Larnaca to Thessaloniki with Dr Richard Chartres
23rd March to 3rd April 2018
St Paul made three journeys from Antioch across the Eastern Mediterranean and Anatolia, now modern day Turkey, to Thrace and finally onto Rome. In the process he founded some of the earliest Christian churches. As a Roman citizen he was able to make use of the excellent communication links of the Roman Empire, so enabling him to travel inland to such places as Cappadocia.
During this cruise and from the comfort of the MS Serenissima we will have an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of St Paul, visiting Tarsus, Perge, Patmos and onto Kavala from where he began his travels in Europe. We will also visit Ephesus, which at the time of St Paul was second only to Rome in size and importance. During St Paul’s three-year stay in Ephesus he frequently preached on the steps of the Library, and whilst in Ephesus he wrote four letters, or Epistles; to the Galatians, Corinthians, Philemon and Philippians. We also visit the island of Patmos where St John the Divine wrote the Book of Revelation to the Seven Churches of Asia, some of which we will be visiting. During our visits to the ancient sites we will see evidence of Greek, Roman and also Byzantium history and culture. Our journey aboard the MS Serenissima takes us through an area steeped in history; a history of great empires of conquest and in conflict, a history rich in cultural and religious diversity.
All remaining cabins are now available exclusively to our email subscribers for the special offer price of £3995 per person based on double occupancy which represents a saving of up to £1600 per person.
Discover the many wonders of the Peloponnese
13th to 24th April 2018
The Peloponnese is home to an extraordinary collection of great archaeological sites with tangible traces of the many civilisations which have at one point over the course of history called this region home including classical temples, Mycenaean palaces, Byzantine cities and Ottoman and Venetian fortresses. The islands are of course also the setting for numerous myths and legends which will be brought to life by our Guest Speaker and local guides. Beyond the fascinating sites, there is also beautiful mountainous scenery, mysterious caves, vast gorges, charming villages and superb beaches.
With such an abundance of historical and natural wonders, we have planned our most comprehensive exploration of the islands yet. Over the course of eleven nights, our voyage will introduce you to the picturesque ports of Nafplio and Pylos, the Byzantine city of Mystras, the stunning coastal scenery of Mani, the sporting history of Olympia and Nemea and the quirky Odontotos railway. Travelling in April we will have the added advantage of witnessing the carpets of wildflowers. Upon leaving the Peloponnese we ensure we stay a little off the beaten track with our visit to Kythira Island and make the essential visit to Delphi. Finally, ensure you are on deck when we transit the Corinth Canal, a wonderful end to our cruise and only possible on a small ship such as the MS Serenissima.
We are offering our email subscribers an exclusive discount of £1000 per person. Special offer prices per person based on double occupancy start from £3895. Cabins for sole use from £4995.
Mdina, Malta
From the Aegean to the Atlantic with Professor David Abulafia
24th April to 8th May 2018
Come with us to some of the greatest historic cities, ancient sites and charming islands as we make our way from the Aegean across the Middle Sea to Lisbon aboard the MS Serenissima. Our journey is perfectly timed to take advantage of the gentle temperatures and for us to witness the coast and islands at their springtime best before the crowds of summer arrive. Sailing from Athens we will traverse the Corinth Canal by daylight before visiting the fascinating sites of Delphi and Olympia, Sicily with its incredible wealth of treasures and spend time exploring the Balearic Islands. Upon reaching mainland Spain we will call into the naval port of Cartagena and Motril, from where we will explore the treasures of Moorish Spain during our visit to the magnificent Alhambra, before our arrival in the great maritime city of Cadiz.
This itinerary is very much a classic that has been enjoyed over the decades and combines some ‘must see’ sites together with some smaller places that are totally unsuitable for vessels larger than ours. Owing to the fact that our small ship can moor centrally, we have the added advantage of being able to access the towns by foot in many ports of call and we have also included time at leisure for individual exploration enabling you to soak up the atmosphere at your own pace.
All remaining cabins are now available exclusively to our email subscribers for the special offer price of £3995 per person based on double occupancy which represents a saving of up to £2100 per person.
A Voyage from Lisbon to Portsmouth
8th to 19th May 2018
Join the MS Serenissima for this coastal voyage of some 1500 miles to Portsmouth visiting some marvellously historic and scenic places along the way. Giving the large ports a wide berth, we will instead call into some small islands and places away from the well traversed routes of the larger cruise lines including the charming Breton Island of Belle Ile and Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.
We will witness some splendid gardens in all their springtime glory such as the wonderful gardens of the Pazo de Oca in Gallicia and the RHS accredited garden at Coleton Fishacre. Step into the pilgrimage cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, spend time exploring some charming Breton villages, discover the Medieval city of Coimbra and taste some local ports and wines. All this is combined with the rich maritime history of the region and the sheer beauty of the coastal landscapes making for an endlessly fascinating cultural experience.
All remaining cabins are now available exclusively to our email subscribers for the special offer price of £2995 per person based on double occupancy which represents a saving of up to £1800 per person. Limited number of single cabins also available without supplement.
