Dear Blue Blue,

From 22-25 May, Smart Villages and SNV held a workshop in Accra, Ghana on rural energy across West Africa. This regional workshop launched the engagement of Smart Villages in the region and will be followed by several in-depth workshops in the coming 12 months. Over 80 people participated from 13 countries in the region, including policymakers, local and international NGOs, entrepreneurs, and researchers.

Participants discussed how to finance rural energy, create businesses and rural economic and social development, improve women's access to jobs, training, and leadership, and compared different national and local experiences with rural energy. Over 30  participants had the opportunity to visit a fishing village where SNV has worked with villagers to improve cookstoves for smoking fish, an important part of their livelihoods.
