Several Paris-based PR agencies were in mourning this week following the terrorist attacks on the city last Friday that left 130 people dead, at least six of whom worked in the marketing industry. Two creative directors employed at Publicis were killed in the attacks, as were four Havas employees. In response to the attacks, hacker collective Anonymous said it would take on the Islamic State, promising to cripple and compromise its online communications networks, an important recruitment tool for the radicalization of potential terrorists.

Actor Charlie Sheen revealed this week that he is HIV positive, and at a time when misinformation about HIV/AIDS is still far too common, such an announcement makes headlines. Yet Sheen shunned a possible media tour and opted to make just one appearance on NBC’s Today – a strategy that led to a split between the actor and his longtime publicist, Jeff Ballard. Publicist Larry Solters, who replaced Ballard, explained how the actor chose to communicate his health status in a Q&A session with PRWeek.
