US Weekender | March 11th 2017

One of the highlights of this week was International Women’s Day, which was celebrated by agencies and brands around the world. One of the day’s most-talked-about activations was State Street Global Advisors’ “Fearless Girl” statue that illustrated the gender disparity on Wall Street. In the spirit of the day, PRWeek unveiled its newest Hall of Femme class this week.

However, another major story illustrates just how far some parts of corporate America have to go to value women in the workplace. Amid a stream of scandals at the ride-hailing company, crisis experts urged Uber CEO Travis Kalanick to appoint a female COO and grow up—fast. One person he could take a lesson from is United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz, PRWeek’s U.S. communicator of the year for 2017, who will be honored next Thursday at the PRWeek Awards.
