PR Week Follow us:
US Weekender | October 7th 2017

This week, two bold-faced names found themselves in hot water for their own behavior. Star quarterback Cam Newton lost his endorsement deal with Dannon after making a sexist comment to a female reporter. And Ketchum discontinued a deal with The Weinstein Company after allegations of sexual harassment by mogul Harvey Weinstein went public.

Meanwhile, PRWeek’s most recent issue went live last week, with standout features on the topic of artificial intelligence and how it will change PR and the media.

A few housekeeping notes:

  • The PRWeek Conference, Swipe Right, is almost here. Go here to buy tickets for the October 12 event.
  • The final deadline for entries for the PRWeek Awards is quickly approaching. Make sure to get your submissions in by October 10.

And, finally, don’t wait around for the Breakfast Briefing on Monday morning, or you’ll miss your train! PRWeek’s offices are closed on Monday for Columbus Day.

Fear, wonder, skepticism, and excitement filter through the comms industry whenever AI is mentioned, but what exactly is it? PRWeek gets to the bottom of this emerging tech.
Can AI be creative? Can AI be creative?
Technology is rapidly advancing, and a robot that created an ad nearly fooled the public into thinking it was made by a human. Nonetheless, it's still emotion, experience, and intuition that wins the day, keeping creators employed -- at least for now.
AI revolutionizes journalism AI revolutionizes journalism
Robo-journalists are emerging to take some of the workload off humans -- freeing them to work on bigger stories -- which may actually protect their jobs instead of endangering them.
