Could the third time be the charm for Flibanserin? The drug, which has been referred to in the media as “female Viagra,” has already been turned down twice by the US Food and Drug Administration because of concerns about safety and whether it actually works.

A campaign called Even the Score is pushing to get the drug approved, arguing the FDA has signed off on more than two dozen libido-boosting treatments for men. Flibanserin would be the first for women.

“There’s nothing feminist about a drug that isn’t very effective and can have negative side effects,” notes an editorial in the Los Angeles Times that urges science and not politics to be weighed most heavily in the FDA’s decision.
