Welcome to PRWeek's Weekender newsletter, which catches you up on everything you missed during the week, gives you a few long reads for the weekend, and highlights the biggest trends in the communications industry over the past seven days. Enjoy your weekend!

Veterans Day is dedicated to acknowledging the service of those who have served in the Armed Forces, so PRWeek looked at the unique set of challenges they face when they take the uniform off and reenter civilian life. For instance, veterans often have specialized skills perfect for a job in the communications field, yet they face an uphill battle entering the PR industry. Senior reporter Diana Bradley spoke with industry leaders to discover why. Brands also took to Twitter to celebrate, thank, and remember those who have served.

Meanwhile, coffee chain Starbucks revealed its seasonal red cups – an annual marketing tradition – to promote its holiday beverages and products, only to be met with harsh criticism from conservatives who were displeased they had no overt reference to Christmas. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump went so far as to suggest a boycott and threaten to end the lease of a Starbucks located in one of his buildings. Unsurprisingly, Starbucks took the high road and did not respond to The Donald, letting celebrities and fans mock the ordeal on Twitter.
