“My mother-in-law is on an Economy 7 tariff but her storage heaters no longer work. How do we change her electricity meter to a normal meter, and how do we make sure she’s on the best deal?”

Yvonne Milloy, via email

Kevin from our Money Sorting Squad answers: Ask your mother-in-law’s current supplier if they’ll change her to a standard meter. Hopefully they’ll do it for free, but some firms charge around £50. They’ll put her on their standard tariff, so you should immediately search for the most competitive fixed rate deal on our energy page
