You ask We answer

“Can you use contactless payment if you have less money in your account than the cost of goods?”

Julie Anne Cairns, via email

Anita from our Money Sorting Squad answers: If you're using a contactless debit card and there are not enough funds in your account, you'll go overdrawn and are therefore likely to be charged for doing so. How much you are charged will depend on the bank and whether it's a planned or unplanned overdraft. Alternatively, your payment may be refused by the bank and you’ll be charged an ‘unpaid transaction fee’.
