“I’ve recently been made redundant, so I’m going to start my own business, working from home. Will that affect my home insurance?”

Marian Keene, via email

Kevin from our Money Sorting Squad answers: When you buy home insurance, you’re asked if you run a business from home. If you have no employees and your work is clerical or computer-based – that is, you don’t hold any stock or operate machinery – there should be little or no impact on your insurance. If clients visit your home, though, you may want to consider public liability cover in case they’re injured or their property is damaged.
