Political turbulence in Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain is once again threatening Europe's fragile economy, the European Commission warned in its latest economic forecast, published on Thursday (4 February).

UK Prime minister David Cameron said the London conference for supporting Syria and the region raised more than $10 billion (€9 billion) - the largest amount of money ever raised in one day in response to a humanitarian crisis.

 
 Interview   Avramopoulos: Detention and removal centres are also needed

Hotspots are important. But detention centers are also needed for those ordered to return to their home countries, particularly if they are not willing to return voluntarily, Dimitris Avramopoulos said in an exclusive interview with EurActiv.
