As SAAB no longer produce cars, how do I get a certificate of conformity to import my 9-3 to France?

I'm considering importing into France a SAAB 9-3. A requirement in France is to provide a letter confirming conformity with French standards. As SAAB is no longer a car manufacturer, can you advise how or where I can obtain this Certificate or Conformity?

My car is 15 years old, do I need to replace the seat belt tensioners and airbag modules?

In the service book for my 2002 Skoda Fabia, it says that at 15 years old the seatbelt tensioners and airbag modules need to be replaced. What if I don't have the work done? Also, it's done 67,000 miles - should I use slightly thicker engine oil to reduce the amount it uses?

Do I need to replace both rear shock absorbers if only one is broken?

I had my 2012 Volkswagen Polo 1.4 serviced yesterday. The garage told me that the rear N/S shock absorber needs to be replaced (£186). As the car has only done 36,000 miles, and isn't used to carry heavy loads, is that reasonable for such relatively low mileage? Also, the garage advised having both rear shock absorbers replaced at the same time (£372). Is that necessary if only the N/S one is leaking?

What is the 'death rate' on older and classic cars?

On the review of the Volkswagen Polo MkII, it says that the car has a '9 point death rate'. Would you be able to explain what this means and, if possible, where I can found out more about the safety of old cars?

Should I get diesel, petrol or hybrid for my next car?

I currently own a 2015 Renault Kadjar 1.5 diesel. We bought the car due to its ability to carry large loads, comfort on long journeys and fuel economy. It's been brilliant. I'm now considering changing it as I no longer need a car of this size. Do I buy diesel, petrol or hybrid though? My requirements are comfort on motorways, quiet inside the car, good fuel economy and a full size spare wheel. What do you suggest?

Received notification of vehicle change of ownership from DVLA - is this a fraud attempt?

A friend of mine recently received a letter from the DVLA saying that they had received a registration for a change of ownership of the vehicle he is still owning and driving. They asked him to contact them, which he did, informing them he still owned and was driving that vehicle and had not sold or had it stolen. They have now put a hold on the transfer and he has been informed they will send a letter asking for proof of ownership and to send photos of the car, reg and chassis number. Will he have to notify the police that there seems to be some attempt of fraud or will the DVLA automatically do this? Any idea how this could happen?

Is it possible to get an extra key made for the immobiliser on my Volkswagen Karmann Ghia?

I've just bought a 1964 Karmann Ghia. fitted in 1996 with Talisman 3 immobiliser. The immobiliser works most efficiently, but I only have one key to deactivate it and fear that should it fail, I couldn't start the car. I abhor the unnecessary complexity of modern cars. Can I obtain an extra key for this system? A modern immobiliser would be well over the top for the electrical simplicity of a beetle. I can find little about Talisman other than that the company was dissolved sometime after 1997.

Should I go for a petrol or diesel Land Rover?

I currently own a 2009 Range Rover Sport diesel and I'm looking to acquire a new Land Rover Discovery Sport. I'm not sure whether to go for diesel or petrol. Diesel has much more to offer in relation to fuel consumption but, with the demonising of diesels by the government, would a petrol version be a better buy?
