Hey Guys,

I felt like Id been punched in the gut with an iron fist.

Two weeks before I was to fly to Seattle to meet Kara, I received an email from her. It said shed met someone, and decided to have a serious relationship with him. And while our trip was still on, thered be nothing physical between us this time.

I was devastated. All of the attraction Id felt left me, turning to heartbreak in an instant. I sat there staring blankly at the screen, not knowing what to do or say.

Should I be angry? I had no basis for itwed never committed to each other, never said we wouldnt see other people. I just didnt think shed meet a guy shed get serious about in the few weeks since wed seen each other.

Man, did this hurt. There was a pit in my stomach, and a tightness in my throat that just would not go away. I was completely blindsided, and continued to sit, staring off into space.

I began to think. I replayed the situation in my mind, wondering what I could have done differently to prevent this. Commit to her? Thatd open up a whole new can of worms.

Should I cancel the trip? Postpone it and see how serious she really was about this guy? Or should I go through with it, so I could look her in the eye in person, and see what was really going on.

I was starting to have my suspicions about what she was really up to, and Ill tell you about those in a future episode.

All my life Ive always been a guy whos done the really hard things face to face. Ill admit to preferring email and distance communication for keeping in touch, but when it comes to something hard, you have to look someone in the eye and I decided to do that.

So I wrote her back, told her I was very sad to hear the news, but that since the ticket was already paid for, I would come up there anyways. What I didnt tell her was that part of the reason of my trip was to see if my suspicions about her motives were right.

The next two weeks were pure hell. I had problems sleeping at night. I didnt want to get out of bed in the morning, but I made myself. I had obligations to clients and customers and Ive always believed in performance under duress, and I was under duress.

If youve ever had your heart broken suddenly by a woman, you know how I felt. Just moving was an effort, and all I could think about was her. Despite the pain, despite the heartbreak, I threw myself into work and working out. The pain was going to be there regardless, so I might as well accomplish something.

The difference between a real man and a girly man is this: a real man acts no matter his emotional state. A girly man begs for pity, and uses his emotions as a reason not to act. The real man deals with his tragedy by himself, the girly man makes his tragedy everyone elses.

But that doesnt make it hurt any less. Even if youre taking action in other areas of your life, the heartbreak is still there, and all you want it to do is go away.

The time for me to fly to Seattle to meet with Kara finally arrived, and with a heavy heart, I boarded the plane to meet her. I had no idea what I was in for, and little did I know I was about to learn about the dark side of attraction
