The smartest men often make the worst choices with women

The Obsession Formula: Get Her Obsessed Over You....
>> Get Her Obsessed Over You

Hey Guys—

I received an email from a long time subscriber, Luke, remarking

on the mistakes Robert DeNiro’s character made in the movie Casino,
thinking he could turn the crazy woman played by Sharon Stone into
a sane wife.

Clearly it didn’t work in the movie, and often does not in real life.

Read his message, and my response below to find out why.

Dear John,

It's amazing how right you are about how even the smartest men make

the worst choices of women.

I watched Casino again after 15 years and couldn't believe how the

smartest business operater in De Niro's character thought he could
change a batshit crazy women played by Sharon Stone through marriage!
It went totally against his thinking in every other area of his life!

Love your stuff John hope you never stop.

JA:  Thanks for the email, Luke.  You bring up an excellent point,

that just because you are excellent in one area (or many areas)
does not mean you make good choices with women.

Many men make this mistake, believing that they can make a beautiful

but unhappy woman happy, a clearly crazy woman less crazy, or a woman
who can’t control her spending, alcohol, flings, etc. into a
responsible person.  They always seem to learn, too late, that
they can’t.

Women are, of course, just as guilty as men in this area and probably

more so, believing that if they just “love him, he will change,”
which has zero to do with reality.  The reality is that relationships
expose and accentuate all character flaws, so what appears as a small
one at the start can grow over time.

Competency in one or more areas can breed arrogance, and the mindset

that because you are smart, you are exempt from what happens to
other men.  You are not, and every many must keep that in mind when
making decisions about women.  It all feels so good and so right in
the beginning, but the beginning soon fades to the long haul, and
that’s where it can get tough. No man is exempt from that, so the
smarter you are, the more careful you should be about choosing,
always asking if you are outsmarting yourself.

After all, no matter how smart you are, there are women out there

who can quickly undo everything you have done to date.  Never,
ever forget that.
