Obnoxious is not funny

Hey Guys—

I do believe it started back in the very early 90’s with the sketch

comedy show, “In Living Color.”

I was actually a fan of that show, and some of the skits were side

splittingly funny, especially Homey the Clown.  But some of them,
especially the ones with Jim Carrey were not funny at all.  Instead
they were just obnoxious.

No show, of course, is funny all the time, and if a show has as many

hilarious skits or episodes as it does duds, it is doing very well.
It is exceptionally hard to be consistently funny, and so I forgave
In Living Color for its obnoxious parts because it more than made
up for it.

Unfortunately that obnoxious humor caught in, ushering in the

pre-hipster era, replete with sound track by the equally awful
Kurt Cobain, and his mob of whiney-90’s musicians.

Both Cobain and In Living Color are long gone, but the styles they

started sadly remain.  Obnoxious humor is everywhere, beloved by
hipsters and poofter.

Obnoxious humor is something you instantly recognize.  For example,

there is a terrible beer commercial going around featuring the
snotty Seth Rogen, and it merits a mute every time.  So do the
bizarre Old Spice commercials, as well as the wretched Progressive
Insurance Commercials featuring the annoying (and ugly) Flo
spokeswoman.

Obnoxious humor (not really humor at all) is completely lacking in

cleverness.  It evokes no thought whatsoever, an important element
in humor, even if it’s a brief thought.  A good joke takes just a
second to “get” because in order to “get” something your mind has
to compare what was said with something inferred.  That is the
very definition of thinking, and obnoxious humor requires none
of that whatsoever.

Obnoxious humor is a turn off because it shows you to be dull minded.

Sharp witted humor, that requires thought is attractive because it
shows you have both intelligence and the guts to risk offense.
Women respond very well to this kind of humor, even when it is
“dirtier” than the dull witted obnoxious humor you see all over tv,
aimed at hipsters and poofters whose sole mission in life is to
make it through without ever actually thinking about anything.

Avoid obnoxious humor at all costs and avoid people who respond to

it. It appeals to those who don’t like to think, and those are
people you should avoid. Women, especially the kind you want to be
around, like men who can think, and men who can make them laugh…
and obnoxious humor encompasses neither one.
