Every man needs a Walt Kowalski

How to Approach Her: >> Girlfriend In a Week

Hey Guys—

When Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino came out, I saw it in the theater,

and left thinking that it was a movie that would become a classic.
Sure enough, every time it is on I watch it, and find myself
enjoying it even more.

When it was released, political correctness had receded a bit after

cresting in the 1990’s, but the movie still resonated. It was a
classic, coming of age movie where a grizzled old vet passes on the
wisdom of becoming a man to a boy who believes he never will be one.

It was on again night before last, but watching it in this new age

of absurd political correctness, safe spaces, and whining about
micro aggressions, the immediate thought that occurred to me was
the current younger generation needs a Walt Kowalski.

Kowalski is Clint Eastwood’s character, a hard bitten, retired auto

worker and Korean War vet, a silver star recipient who has carried
the horror of that war with him his entire life.  He is foul mouthed,
cares not what others think, and has no tolerance for political

He winds up taking a frightened boy under his wing, teaching him

how to talk like a man, work like a man, act like a man, and live
like a man, confidently contributing to society.  Clint uses every
racial epithet in the book in showing the Hmong kid how real men
interact with each other, breaking each other’s balls while
respecting each other at the same time.

He teaches him how to be mentally and physically strong, how to deal

with the truly strong, and how to deal with the truly weak and the
true bullies (not the ridiculous concoctions of those cowering in
safe spaces).  He shows “Toad” how to EARN self confidence and how
to purge weakness from your mind and body.  At the end of the movie,
he shows him how to live life, something not taught to many people

I was fortunate to have my Walt Kowalski’s in school, in the military,

and in business (and even a few in the oilfield). I admired and
respected their hard coaching, their coarse but accurate language,
their work ethic, and their disdain for weakness and shirking of
personal responsibility.  And I have passed that on to kids when I

This current nonsense of retreating from the real world, skittering

away from adversity, whining about perceived grievance, and asking
for a handout based “good beliefs” will get it adherents nowhere.
No matter how much the girlie men in the media squeal for it, the
real world always assesses the true value of a person and rewards
or punishes them accordingly.

Finding a Walk Kowalski to show you have to “live” in whatever area

you choose will go a long way towards increasing your value.  Hiding
in safe spaces and spouting ridiculous terms will only bring you
real world ridicule and make you weak…tackling adversity head on,
speaking like a man to other men, and delivering real world value
to the world will bring you not only success, but respect. Walt
Kowalski knew that, lived that, and died that.  And if you haven’t
watched Gran Torino in awhile, turn it on and re-watch it in this
new age of political correctness…you will see how low we have truly
