Hey Guys—

Whenever a shocking event happens, or something goes horribly wrong,

the immediate reaction by people who are not directly responsible
for the consequences of what they advise is, “but we have to do

Politicians call for it, the girlie men in the media squeal for it,

corporate bozos demand it of their employees, and soon enough, they
do something without any reality based consideration of consequences
of the something they did.

Sexy, Hot Women!

Most people in positions like this don’t consider reality because

they can’t—they are insulated from it, and don’t experience the
direct consequences of what they do. That’s why they come up with
the most moronic ideas, schemes, and plans that those who do
experience direct consequences of their actions would dismiss out
of hand.

As a business owner, you never “do something” for the sake of doing

something.  That’s a good way to go broke, fast.  In the military,
you don’t do something just to “do something,” else you get men
killed or injured.  And when something goes wrong with women,
you’d better not do something just to “do something,” else you
will soon have no women.

People who don’t experience the direct consequences of their actions

love to be seen to be “doing something.”  They pass a law, implement
a policy, or snottily lecture, making sure they are seen doing so,
seen to be “acting.”  But when the real world consequences of what
they do and advocate are examined and experienced by others, the
“but we have to do something” thing they did usually has adverse
and predictable consequences.

Taking action, making fast decisions, and doing things are all

paramount to success.  But those actions and decisions have to be
based on real world knowledge, training, or experience, with actual
thought given to not only direct consequences, but unintended
consequences. Sometimes you have little time for thought, but
that’s when experience and study of past history come into play—
if YOU want results in the real world, you cannot do things for
the sake of doing them.

If, for example, a woman you have a date with flakes on you, sending

her a nasty text message is certainly “doing something.”  Some
fools even say it’s “teaching her a lesson.”  The reality is you’ll
never see her after that, when some well thought out action might
rescue the situation, or give you another opportunity.

I am all for taking action, and I am all for rapid decision making.

But you MUST do it with a purpose in mind, and you must do it by
evaluating probable direct consequences and unintended consequences
in the real world.  Doing this brings you something the pundits,
poofters, and politicians will rarely achieve—the skill to succeed
in the real world on your own talents and merits.
