Hey Guys—

Saturday night I turned on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and was

pleased to see the 1953 classic, From Here To Eternity was on.

I’ve always loved that movie because it was about real men and

real women dealing with complex situations, knowing war was
approaching.  It also starred Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift,
Frank Sinatra, Ernest Borgnine, and other true stars.

The movie really is all about knowing who you are, and being true

to yourself under the direst of circumstances.  In many respects
it’s about being a real man, and making hard choices under hard
circumstances.  The acting is fantastic, and it harkens back to
an age of real men. Hard choices under hard circumstances breeds
hard men— and the real women who deal with them.

After it was over, I flipped over to HBO to see if anything good

was on. They were running a recent movie starring Robert DeNiro
called The Intern, about an older, real man who goes back to work
as an intern for a bright young woman building an internet company.

In some respects it was a bit clichéd, but DeNiro was pretty good,

and the female lead was great, definitely my kind of woman.  But
the other men in the movie?  Complete and utter pansies, especially
compared to the hard bitten soldiers in From Here to Eternity.

The most pathetic male in The Intern is the husband of Jules, the

owner of the internet company DeNiro goes to work for.  He’s soft,
patchy bearded, with girlie glasses, and weak posture.  He shuffles
when he walks, and he mumbles.  What is unbelievable is that she
would marry an ass clown like him in the first place— not in the
real world.

But that it gets even more unrealistic.  Because he can’t handle a

successful woman, he has an affair!  Now, a pansy sniffling about
a successful woman is quite realistic.  But this wimp being able
to find another woman to cheat with?  Oh, hell NO.  In reality,
this guy would be a single wanker, whining to his wanker buddies
that girls don’t like him and are mean to him, and he’s talking
through it with his therapist.

All I could think about the whole time was we got from Eternity to

HERE?  Where did it all go wrong, when did men devolve into merely
males who still need diapers, hugs, and a bedtime story from Mommy?

Folks, it’s bad out there for women, especially women who strive

to achieve. But it can be good out there for you, if you act more
like the men in From Here to Eternity than the pathetic pansies in
The Intern (DeNiro not included, of course).

Watch both movies one after the other and draw your own conclusions.

You’ll see why women are so frustrated, and you’ll also see how you
can help them with their frustration.  I fear there is no help for
the girlie men, but thankfully you get to choose what kind of a man
you’ll be, a real man or a girlie man.
