I have been in direct marketing going on 20 years now, and while

many things change, one thing remains constant:  if you want to
succeed you have to learn how to buy media at the right rate.

Overpay, and you will go broke.  Fail to understand that media

buyers and ad brokers get paid on how much you spend, and therefore
are incentivized to get you to spend as much as possible regardless
of results, and you will go broke.

Luckily, I learned that truth at the very beginning of my career,

and it has served me very well.  So whenever a media buyer tells
me, “oh, we spend your money like it is our money,” I have a good
laugh at their big, fat lie and tell them that they are, in fact,

Oh, they may not believe they are, and they may not intend to, but

they are.  The truth is, no one treats your money like it is their
money, because only you treat your money like it is your money.  
Same thing applies to you and I with other people’s money—no matter
how much we tell ourselves different, we treat it differently than
we do ours.

That’s why when you are dealing with people who are in a capacity

to spend your money, you have to keep a very close eye on them and
let them know you are.  You have to call BS when they are overspending,
you have to constantly question them, and you have to let them know
you are watching at all times.  You also have to verify what they
say and do and let them know you are.  This is called good management
and it is good for you and for them—when you make money, you can
spend more, and all of you make more money together.  But let them
run wild, and you’ll go broke.

The same thing applies to other important areas of your life.  

Since you are reading this, you are different from other people
in that you want much better than average results out of life— hot
women, great health, more money, etc.  But when you take action to
get better results than most people, you have to leverage the
talents of other people, and this is where you have to keep an eye
on them.

Many are not used to this.  For example, the look of surprise on a

doctor’s face when you tell him you disagree with him or want more
data is priceless because they are not used to being questioned,
just obeyed.  Same thing with other experts, because they think
their titles make them infallible, and most of their clients,
customers and patients never question them. Yet if you want to get
good results, you must.

I have learned over the years that most so-called experts have a

limited number of “clicks on their dial” and try to fit every
problem into one of them.  Often this is fine because many common
problems do.  But when you wish to get better than average results,
you will run into and create problems that do not fit these “clicks
on the dial.”

That’s when you have to relentless question them, push them, verify

what they say and do, and manage them carefully.  They are not used
to it, and will try to fit you into boxes appropriate for the
average man, but not for you. Some squirm when you do this, others
can’t handle it, and some step up to the plate because they like
to solve problems.  These are the ones you want to stick with.

In the end, it’s your body, your mind, your money, your relationships,

and your success.  Nobody will treat them like you do, so you have
to manage them into doing so.  They may not like it, but it’s the
only way for you to get the results you want.
