Meet them in the real world

Hey Guys—

Yet again it appears that thrice disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner has been caught sending dirty messages via text…but this time he’s in big trouble.

You can read all the sordid details of Carlos Danger turning into T-Dog here:

While Anthony Weiner clearly has all sorts of problems that really, are no longer funny, there is something in that story for every man to pay attention to.  Yes, it may be fun to interact with women you meet via electronic means, but until you meet them in person you never know who they are.

That was the premise of the whole show Catfish where people created not just fake profiles, but fake lives in order to fool people into having ongoing “relationships” with them. It was only when they finally met in person that the charade was exposed.

If you are a man who likes women, then you want to meet them in person as soon as possible.  Nothing wrong with using electronic means to initiate contact, but you want to get off that as soon as possible and meet a real girl in the real world.

When online dating started, the biggest complaint men had was that the women did not want to meet in person, or if they did, looked nothing like they claimed.  But as online dating became mainstream, the roles were reversed.  Now the biggest complaint from women is that men don’t want to meet in person, they just want to exchange dirty messages with no real world interaction.

The bottom line is this:  you want to meet a woman in the real world as soon as possible.  You do NOT want to have worthless electronic relationships where you never meet at all.  That’s not a relationship, it’s a waste of time.  Real men meet real women in person.

As Weiner’s moronic and possibly criminal situation proves, you know nothing about anyone you meet online, and you want to find out as soon as possible.  That involves meeting in person.  HOWEVER, don’t ever, ever think that because you meet someone in person you somehow “know” them. You don’t, and you won’t unless you spend a lot of time with them and see how they respond under adversity.

So, proceed with caution, and the best caution is meeting real women in the real world.  You’ll save time, and you’ll get to do the fun things you can only do with real women in person, while avoiding the bad that can happen with personalities you never see in person.

On with the fun,

-John Alanis
