Masculine issues?

Hey Guys—

When I was a kid, I used to enjoy reading reviews of movie and tv

shows in the newspaper.  And even into my mid thirties, I still
enjoyed a well written review by a good writer, even if I disagreed
with it.

Today I can’t even read the first few paragraphs of a review before

I stop in disgust.  The writing is rotten, the lack of real world
experience the “writer” has is rotten, and the simpering political
correctness and desire for adoring comments is just out of control-
or whining about “toxic masculinity.”

It seems almost every review of popular shows (not the art house

ones three hipsters and a stoned hippie watch together on a borrowed
tv) is the same, like a paper written for a political whack job of
a professor who gets his paycheck on time, every time, regardless
of what he does or says.

In almost every review, the review starts whining about “masculine

issues.”  Men are “too macho” or “not vulnerable” or not in touch
with their emotions, or don’t understand people and are mean.
And they say mean things.

Good Lord.  I wonder what kind of reviews Clint Eastwood’s Spaghetti

Westerns would have gotten if they were released as is, in this day
and age?  Doubtless there would be whining about how mean his father
was for not naming him (for you younger readers, Eastwood was known
as “the man with no name”), that he clearly needed therapy for not
giving enough hugs, that he was an anti-feminist and abuser of women,
and that he oppressed all the outlaws.   Yah, he had “masculinity

These idiot reviewers can, of course, be simply tuned out, and they

will eventually lose their jobs if they can’t keep their page views
up, so they can generate advertising revenue, part of which pays
their puny salaries (although none will admit to that).

The bigger issue is the whole idea of “masculine issues” in the

first place.  Nowhere anymore is there the idea of the authoritative
man with a good sense of humor who provides and protects, doesn’t
let anything bother him, and lives a good, clean life.  In the past
few decades there has crept into the social consciousness that there
is something wrong with EVERYONE.

What that leads to is people and organizations wanting to “help”

perceived problems, usually to their benefit.  Sure, some people DO
have serious health issues, and I am all for the proper treatment.
But I absolutely do not buy into the idea that there’s something
wrong with everyone…in fact there is NOTHING wrong with most people
except indulging in whining about normal things that happen in life.

Don’t you buy into it, especially for yourself.  If you approach

your life with a good sense of humor, mental toughness, a mindset
that expects adversity and expects to overcome it, you’ll lead a
life confusing to all the simpering girlie men—a life where women
are attracted to you for your manly virtues and lack of “masculine
issues,” a life where you have a pretty darn good time.  Just don’t
let them write a review of it.
