Hey Guys—

As you know, I believe reading is exceptionally important, especially

the reading of human history. The more you read history, the more you
understand why people behave the way they do.  You also start to

understand human nature.

But reading a book doesn’t make you an expert.  For example, I just

read an excellent book about Margaret Thatcher (There Is No
Alternative: Why Margaret Thatcher Matters by Claire Berlinski),
but that does not make me an expert. Far from it.

If you wish to be an expert on something you must read many books.

If you wish to be a scholar, you must read many books and go to the
original source material, as well as speaking to people who were
there, if possible.

Of course you don’t need to be a scholar to succeed, but it IS

helpful to make yourself an expert in an area that interests you.
It is also helpful to make yourself an expert (with access to
scholars) on history.

You do so by not only reading, but by taking action (if that is

possible on what you want to be an expert on, such as attraction),
and THINKING about the results in the context of what you read.
There is an old saying that wisdom is the combination of learning
and experience, and I agree with that.  Learning without experience
makes you an IYI (Intellectual Yet Idiot), and experience without
learning is very, very limited.

Two of the greatest men in history, Winston Churchill and Abraham

Lincoln were great readers.  Lincoln’s father often got after him
because he felt he was “being lazy by reading,” i.e. reading instead
of doing manual labor.  Lincoln disarmed his opponents by coming
across as amiable buffoon who liked to read aloud from joke books,
but he was actually a very deep reader and thinker about history
and philosophy, with a mind that remembered incredible detail.

The more you read about history, and the more you act in accordance

with what you learn, the easier it is to move through the world— you
literally start to see things others miss completely, and you realize
how stupid most people really are, especially the media.  They are
not ignorant because they have access to books and history, they
simply choose not to read them.

One book will never make you an expert, but reading for an hour a

day, preferably two hours a day WILL make you an expert, and that
expertise adds up.  Also, you begin to take pleasure in reading well
written books, a pleasure you realize many miss out on because they
think history is boring.  It’s not—the popularity of Game of Thrones
proves that because it IS history with a bit of fantasy thrown in.
In fact, if you read many books about real history, you will see
Game of Thrones is very, very tame.

Most people go through life in tiny little bubbles, clueless about

how and why the world works.  They rarely get anywhere, miss out
on
a lot, and constantly repeat the errors of the past.  Be one of
those few who reads many books, and you will be able to write your
own future.

“The King of Let ‘em Come to You”

PS  Another reason to study John Boyd right now is the election of

Donald Trump, and the appointments of General Kelly, General Mattis,
and General Dunford, all Marine 4 star generals, is the triumph/revenge
of John Boyd.  Boyd’s theories changed the Marine Corps, and all 3
of those Generals rose through the ranks during the time of Boyd.
Trump employed Boyd’s strategies masterfully to win the election.

Newt Gingrich also mentioned Trump’s use of OODA loops in a recent

speech, and watching him employ all of Boyd’s strategies at once has
been incredible. No one in the media or either political party sees
it, but if you read Boyd you will.  Trump, incidentally, has just
opened up two major gaps in domestic politics (one deliberate, one
that opened up on its own) and is currently “pouring his forces
through them.”  Read Boyd, and you will see what everyone else is
missing.
