When you should reach out to other men

Only For Men Who Like Dirty Girls! >> Click if you like naughty girls!

Hey Guys—

I received an email from long time subscriber (and occasionally NFL

commentator) Jan W regarding how men should deal with their problems
and how they shouldn’t.

He makes an excellent point about when and why you should reach out

to other men for advice and counsel, something all men should heed.
Read his email, and my response below.

John - I really liked your email post today.  But I think you could

have added that even though your problems are your problems, real
men also look to other men for advice on how to solve their problems.
You can compare this to the mastermind group principle written about
by Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich.  Andrew Carnegie was a big
believer in having a mastermind group where each of the men in the
group support and help each other, but most importantly, hold each
other accountable to do the things that need to be done.

My dad died when I was 16 and he was sick for a long time, so he

couldn't be there for me and teach me things about being a man.
But a couple of my older brothers taught me things that are still
helping me decades later.  Something as simple as learning how to
tie on a fishing hook to the line, or how to aim and shoot a rifle,
are all things I learned from my older brothers, so they were my
mastermind group back then and taught me how to do these things.
What an idea, huh, men helping men to become better men.

JA: Wow, this makes two emails in a row where I only agree with you

100%.  You are quite correct, a real man absolutely reaches out to
other men (and women, if appropriate) for genuine advice and counsel
when he recognizes he needs it, something not always easy to do.

In fact, admitting you need outside counsel to yourself, is one of

the skills every man should develop because it feels (at first)
like you have to swallow your pride.  But that’s not true all. None
of us can ever know everything there is to know, and that’s why we
reach out to others who are qualified to give us advice when we
recognize we need it.

The corollary to that is every real man should be there for other

men when they genuinely seek advice and counsel about solving
problems. In a business sense, there may be compensation involved
(and there should be), but in a personal sense you should be there
for other men who genuinely seek your advice and intend to use it.
Of course if they simply want to whine and snivel and be a victim
you should show them the door, but if they want to handle their
problems and look to you for advice, you should be there for them.

Excellent points, all.

On with the fun,
