Christmas Schedule Changes

There will be no waste or recycling collections on Christmas Day, Monday 25th December 2017. If one of your waste collections falls on Christmas Day, your next collection will be as normal. If your recycling collection is scheduled to be on Christmas Day, a special recycling collection will take place on Saturday 23rd December 2017. All other collection days over the period will remain the same.

Mobile Recycling Centre - Christmas Opening Times
Our Mobile Recycling Centre in Warwick Avenue will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period. You will not be able to bring items on the dates listed below:
  • Saturday 23rd December 2017
  • Saturday 30th December 2017
  • Saturday 6th January 2018
  • Saturday 13th January 2018
During this time our Micro Recycling Centres are open as usual. If you have any batteries to recycle you can take them to your local library. Recycling bags can be ordered online. The Mobile Recycling Centre will open again as normal on the 20th January 2018.

Recycling at Christmas
Whilst enjoying yourself over the festive period, remember 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle'.

In 2015, UK households wasted around 7.3 million tonnes of food, costing the average household £470. It’s easy to go overboard with all the trimmings for Christmas dinner, so consider reducing food waste by upcycling your leftovers.
Get recipe inspiration from LoveFoodHateWaste’s campaign and save yourself a penny or two!

With all the new gifts you may be exchanging, there’s a great opportunity to recycle your packaging and any old items. That includes old clothing and electrical items such as phones and chargers, hair straighteners and TVs. To find out where, visit our website.

Don’t forget that you can also recycle your natural Christmas trees. Sites are open across Westminster from the 1st January 2018. To find your nearest one, click here.

Events
As you may be aware, Westminster held several events in support of Recycle Week 2017 at the end of September. Below is a short summary of the successes!

Restart Party, Church Street Library - Our biggest event of recycle week saw 28 participants who brought along a variety of items which were either fixed by the Restart Project, or recycled.

Give and Take, The Abbey Centre - A big thank you to everyone who came along and participated. We had a great selection of items including toys, bags and books.
A quick reminder..
  • Our free disposable recycling bags are now clear
  • But our crews will still collect your blue recycling bags full of mixed recycling! So please use up any blue bags you have
  • You can continue to use your recycling boxes
  • You can order recycling bags online
