To learn the craft of writing you must first learn to handle the tools at your disposal. In Getting Started in Writing , you will learn about grammar, punctuation, the parts of speech, character building, plotting, and revising your work. The various forms of fiction including short stories, short-short stories, novellas, and novels will be covered and the types of short nonfiction, including research articles, personal essays, books, and memoirs will be reviewed. You will have the opportunity to explore your own ideas and decide what kind of book is in your future. Gain the skills needed to get started on any writing venture! Class starts July16th.

Each session of the Getting Started in Writing course is two weeks long. Assignments include writing descriptive paragraphs, writing character sketches, writing dialogue, writing an article or essay, writing the opening pages of a short story, developing a book idea, and writing an original work of fiction or nonfiction. Your instructor, Gloria Kempton, will provide feedback to each assignment. This is a great course for writers who don't know where to begin.

"I like teaching Getting Started in Writing because the students get to try so many different kinds of writing, therefore discovering much about their authentic writing selves in the process."

  ~ Gloria Kempton

A former student of the class said, "This course really encouraged me as a beginning writer. I felt I was just trying writing out. After this class, I feel a little more secure about the idea." Instructor Gloria Kempton is a published author and understands the challenges of getting started. She will be available for questions and is happy to steer writers in the right direction. Get feedback and make progress!
Join the Getting Started in Writing Workshop! Class begins Thursday, July 16th. The registration fee is $379.99. You can work on your own time since there is no scheduled time to meet. The course system is open 24 hours a day. Assignments are due every other Wednesday.
