Dear Writer's Digest Subscriber,

Imagine writing an author website that not only promotes your latest book, but also makes you a passive income in its own right. In fact, your author website may end up making you more money than you make with your books!

Sound interesting?

As an author, one of your biggest challenges has nothing to do with writing your books.

It's about building an audience of eager buyers.

Whether you want to or not - and many authors don't - you have to be a marketer as well as being an author.

This is true whether you have found a traditional publisher for your next book or you are self-publishing.

I remember my own surprise when I signed a contract with a major New York publisher and was then immediately asked about my "platform."

I had no idea what they were talking about!

As you probably know better than I did, when they talk about a platform, they are really asking whether you have access to an audience of readers who are likely to buy your work.

I was naïve enough about publishing back then to be surprised by the fact that finding an audience and marketing my book was my job and not theirs!

Back then - this is several years ago now - what we all did as authors was build ourselves a small website with maybe ten pages, or less. We wrote just enough to let people know about ourselves and our books, with particular emphasis on our latest title.

And we tended to create the site, or add to it, only when we had a new title in the pipeline.

In other words, first we wrote the book and then we thought, "Dangit, I'd better create a website for this book, or add a new page or two to my existing author site."

These sites are what I call Author Platforms 1.0.

First you wrote the book, and then you wrote a small website to promote it.

These simple sites worked pretty well back then. People would find us through the search engines, by word of mouth, and sometimes through some traditional media coverage.

But now for the bad news ...

Author Platforms 1.0 don't work anymore.

The web has become too huge, too busy and too competitive for any site with just a few pages to be found.

Over a BILLION new pages, posts and social media updates are uploaded to the web every single day.

This means your 5, 10 or 20-page author website has no chance of being noticed. It will be lost in the noise. Times have changed, and it's time to look at Author Platforms 2.0.

And here is the really good news ...

One of the key features of this new approach to building your author website is that in addition to successfully promoting your books ... it is also a source of passive revenue itself.

That's right ... your author website will also be a money-making website in its own right. Every page you write for the site becomes a new source of revenue.

In fact, you may find that your website makes you more money than the books you write and sell!

Here's how it works.

First, you identify your niche or topic.

For fiction writers this topic will be a subset of your genre ... sci-fi, fantasy, crime, romance, etc.

For example, if you are a sci-fi writer who writes post-apocalyptic novels, your website could be about the history of the genre itself. About the authors who came before you, and their work. You could even include research and commentary on real-life post-apocalyptic scenarios.

In other words ... even before you publish your first book, your website could be the go-to place for people interested in this topic.

For non-fiction writers, your topic will be focused on the subject you are writing about ... cycling, gardening, travel, history, finance, etc.

I know a writer who created an amazing website all about raising rabbits. Rabbits just happen to be her passion.

Her website now has hundreds of pages of content, and attracts tens of thousands of visitors a month.

It was only after writing her website, that she thought, "Wow, I'm an author!" She is now selling a number of ebooks from her site about different aspects of raising rabbits.

Better still, after just a few months she was contacted by a traditional publisher who wanted her to write a book.

How did the publisher find her? Through her website, of course. After spending a few minutes on the site, the publisher could see that its author was an authority on her subject ... and that she was also an accomplished writer.

Do you see how this works?

Instead of writing a book and then creating a small website ... you create a much bigger website, establish your credentials on your topic, build an audience of fans ... and then write the book.

And on the day you publish your book, you make an announcement to all the fans of your website.

By the way ...

The author of the website on rabbits also makes a ton of passive income from her website through on-page advertising and affiliate commission deals.

This is the basis of Author Platforms 2.0.

I have done the same thing myself. Most of my books, both traditional and self-published, have been promoted and sold through my own business website.

First I built the audience, then I wrote the books.

I'm also a big fan of coffee and have created a pretty big website for lovers of gourmet coffee. Once I had attracted a big enough audience I wrote my first book on gourmet coffee and promoted it to my readers.

One other point about my coffee website might grab your attention ...

Since I started writing the site back in 2007, it has earned me over $250,000 in passive income.

This is why I am a big fan of what I call "money-making websites".

And this is also why a few years ago I wrote a self-study program to help other people create money-making websites of their own.

Originally I wrote it just with writers in mind. But more recently I have come to realize that the model I teach is also a perfect platform for authors. For all the reasons I described above.

This is the cure for the old Author Platforms 1.0 approach.

The program includes hundreds of pages of step-by-step instructions.

PLUS ... and this is the thing I really want to emphasize ... it also includes 7 weeks of live instruction.

I do the live instruction series just twice a year.

And the next series begins next week.

That means if you sign up right now for How to Write Your Own Money-Making Websites, you will become part of a very special group of writers who will be building their sites together, side by side.

For 7 weeks, beginning July 21st, you'll join us each Tuesday for a LIVE webinar where we'll go through my Money-Making Websites program section by section.

But I won't just repeat what's in the program. I'll share new insights, tips, and tools I have uncovered while building my own money-making sites. I'll also put aside some time at the end of each webinar for your questions.

Plus, you'll get access to an exclusive, members-only discussion site. It's one of the friendliest and most helpful online communities I've ever seen. Simply post any issues you encounter, or just ask for advice, and you'll quickly get a response.

You won't have to go it alone ...

I'll be there to help you every step of the way. And with the live training, I can show you exactly what makes a successful Money-Making Website. You just need to follow along!

As we progress through How to Write Your Own Money-Making Websites, you'll learn everything you need to know to build your site.

We'll start with how to pick a topic that is both enjoyable AND profitable. It can be nearly any subject that interests you; a hobby, sport, or a favorite destination spot. But you'll want to pick something you are passionate about because that's what keeps it FUN!

Then we'll go through how to find the ideal domain name, choose the right hosting platform, and attract a ton of traffic. This is the technical part, but don't worry, we'll keep it simple and easy to follow.

Finally, I'll show you exactly what will get your site generating revenue!

There are at least 9 ways I know to turn your website into a cash-generating machine, and I cover them all in detail in How to Write Your Own Money-Making Websites.

You'll get a proven system you can follow to generate income of $1,000, $3,000, even $4,000 - or more - from your own website each month.

All with just a few hours of spare-time effort each week.

Imagine what an extra $1,000 a month would do for you. You could pay off some bills, get the kids what they need, put a few extra presents under the tree, and still have money left over for your retirement nest egg.

And you'll be building a real asset. You could even sell your site and make a quick (and very hefty) profit.

Doing this together, as a group, is the best way to make sure that you really do create a second income stream this summer with your own Money-Making Website - or two!
